Infants’ Mylicon Gas Relief

SYMPTOMS

What causes my baby to cry?

Common causes of an upset infant can include:

  • Gas: occasional gas is very normal. Gas bubbles can cause bloating and discomfort, making the baby cry. Many infants with gas will also pull their legs up, lying in a curled position to help relieve their discomfort. Mylicon drops can provide relief for your baby by gently breaking up the gas bubbles.
  • Pain: Generally unmistakably loud and sudden, with long, high-pitched shrieks, followed by a pause and then a wail. If you are unable to find a cause, you should call your healthcare provider immediately if this type of crying persists or if the baby is inconsolable.
  • Loneliness or boredom: Often, your baby’s coos will turn to a wail if she doesn’t get the attention she wants or needs. Rest assured that no amount of love, cuddling, hugging and consoling will spoil your baby in the first six months; so go ahead and pick her up.
  • Exhaustion or discomfort: If your baby’s cries are whiny, nasal and continuous, chances are she’s overtired, about to have a bowel movement, too warm, too cold or otherwise uncomfortable.
  • Other reasons: If your baby is “good” all day, sometimes she just needs to release energy by crying. This usually occurs at the end of the day. Also, some babies are just fussy by nature. Irritable crying varies in duration and can happen randomly, without an apparent cause.

What are common signs of infant gas?

Check with your pediatrician; some common signs include:

  • Your baby is excessively fussy after most feedings
  • Your baby is kicking or pumping his/her legs
  • Your baby’s belly looks bloated or full
  • Note: If your baby has a fever, it could be something more serious than gas and you should consult with your baby’s pediatrician

Is Mylicon right for my baby’s fussiness?

Mylicon relieves the discomfort of infant gas, which is frequently caused by air swallowing or by certain formulas/foods, by gently breaking down air bubbles trapped in the stomach. If you are unsure, always call your pediatrician’s office.

When to call the doctor when my baby is crying?

You should not hesitate to call your pediatrician’s office if you have any questions about your baby’s fussiness. And even if you think your baby may just be fussy, you should call your doctor if your baby:

  • Refuses to feed for multiple feedings
  • Has diarrhea and vomits more than usual
  • Has a cold that does not improve or gets worse
  • Has a rash
  • Has ear drainage
  • Will not stop crying
  • Has a fever

STORAGE

How can I keep Mylicon out of reach of children?

All Mylicon products contain child-resistant packaging. However, it is important to keep all medications out of sight and reach of children at all times. Here are a few tips that can help:

  • Make sure you store medicine in a place your children can’t reach. Because some children can climb (using the toilet or countertops), locked cabinets are the safest place to keep your medicines.
  • Put medicines away every time. Never leave them out on a kitchen counter or at a sick child’s bedside – even if you know you will need to give your child medicine again in a few hours.
  • Dispose your old medicine in a way that your child cannot reach it.
